Avenir Light is a clean and stylish font favored by designers. It's easy on the eyes and a great go-to font for titles, paragraphs & more.
So you want to get upside down yourself? Here’s a run down on who I am, and what it’s like to work with me as a coach.
Who I am: My name is Marysia (they/them), and I’m a handbalancer and acrobat with a contortion background, as well as a coach of ten years (resume available if you’re curious where I’ve trained and taught in the past). I specialize in working with adults beginning their journey into being upside down and people with a movement background looking to refine and define their skills. Any previous experience you bring with you is a plus, but never required. I’ll meet you where you're at and develop programming designed for your body.
I’m intentionally body positive and ascribe to the Health at Every Size philosophy. I’m not the coach to work with if you’re interested in dieting or losing weight, but I am the right person for someone excited to gain strength, flexibility, and fluidity of movement while learning circus skills.
Who you are: You’re a curious adult interested in getting upside down or refining your existing inversions. If we’re working virtually, you’ve got enough free space to comfortably swing your arms and legs, and ideally you have an empty wall (or door!) and a sturdy chair.
What us working together looks like: My classes are 1 hour minimum, either over video or in person in New Orleans (Bywater). I meet with most of my students weekly, which I find has the best “bang for your buck” in terms of making progress. I also offer monthly "tune-ups" where we work together once a month and I assign you homework to make progress between lessons (better for more advanced students).
My rates are sliding scale $50-$80/hour, which is on the low end for private circus training, but is part of my ethos in meeting people where they are as students. You’re always welcome to pay more as you’re able and help me offer lessons at cost to low-income students.
My home studio is an intentionally covid and allergen cautious space, with multiple air filtration systems and the capacity to keep windows open for airflow. I'm always happy to work masked, and have KN95 masks available if you'd like that option for both of us. There is one flight of steps leading up to my space.
What do we do together: That depends on you and your goals! Most of my classes are a mix of flexibility, bodyweight strength training, and developing an acrobatic vocabulary with a focus on inverting and handbalancing. For virtual lessons, I’m very intentional about having progressions that can be done safely in a small space without hands-on coaching, and we’ll be moving at the pace of what your body feels comfortable with.
What's next: If this sounds exciting to you, let’s talk scheduling! I’m on central time, and my classes are offered weekday afternoons and evenings. Shoot me a message at marysia@marvelousmarysia.com to get started.
